Did you know 92% of people who make New Year’s Resolutions will fail to achieve them before the end of the year? 23% of them quitting by February!
According to research published by Forbes and Drive Research, 62% of people feel pressure and expectations to set New Year’s resolutions, while 45% of Americans actually make them. From those who make New Year’s resolutions only a mere 8% actually stick to them throughout the year.

These statistics aren’t surprising when you consider that we’re trying to force massive life changes during the darkest, coldest time of the year … when nature itself is calling us to rest and reflect.
Let me preface this by saying that I actually don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions … or, at least not in the traditional way we approach them.
While there’s nothing inherently wrong with setting clear intentions for positive change, the timing of January 1st feels fundamentally misaligned with our natural rhythms as humans, and with the Universe itself.
When we explore energy through the lens of Human Design, and according to Ra Uru Hu (founder of Human Design), the New Year doesn’t officially start until January 22, 2025, when Gate 41 (the energy of bringing our dreams into fulfillment) moves into the Sun position.
This commences the Solar New Year (known as the Rave New Year). And if you follow other Eastern philosophies, then you might consider the Lunar New Year as the true start, which begins January 29, 2025.
True New Year: Why January 1st Doesn’t Make Sense
Here’s what most people miss: January 1st is simply an arbitrary date based on a man-made Gregorian calendar. While the world around us is deep in winter’s rest, we’re paradoxically pushing ourselves to begin again, harder and faster than the previous year … to do more and to transform overnight.
This fundamental misalignment might explain why so many of our well-intentioned resolutions fizzle out before they truly begin.
Because when you look deeper, we still are in operating in fourth quarter energy when the “New Year” starts, or the Recalibration Quarter as it is called in Human Design.
This energetic period is asking us to slow down and reflect rather than ramp things up and get back to our wind and grind.
It’s truly the winter season.
Spring, our seeding planting phase, doesn’t start until February.
For most people, we need to take advantage of the energy presenting, to slow down and calm our overactive nervous systems.
To take stock and inventory on the past year, reflect on our challenges and our learnings, to marinate in the experiences we had, and bask in the wisdom and growth we’ve gained, as a result.
For many, it’s also a time to grieve, to shed unnecessary attachments, and to heal from family dynamics and trauma. The holidays tend to stress a lot of people out, and create an extra sense of busyness and overwhelm.
We need space to recover and recalibrate from all that.
It’s a quiet season right now.
A time for stillness, wonder, reflection, and dreaming.
Navigating the New Year by Type
Now, with all that said, I also know there is a desire to set your sails in the direction of what the New Year holds, to get yourself ready, and to feel greater clarity and alignment.
So, I wanted to offer you some insight, powerful questions to ask yourself, and energetic affirmations for you that can help as you ease into the 2025.
🌟 Manifestors (Independent Initiators)
You don’t need to wait for an arbitrary date such as January 1st to initiate change. Your power lies in starting things when your internal timing feels right and you receive the right downloads or sparks of inspiration.
Some prompts to ponder:
- How can you inform others about your intentions in a way that feels authentic? (Note: informing is not about asking for permission or validation. Rather, it’s about getting others prepared for what you are about to initiate).
- What initiatives are you naturally pulled to start right now?
- What do you want to create, impact, affect, or influence this year that aligns with your inner authority?
Affirmation: “I trust my timing and honor my natural rhythm to initiate.”
🌟 Generators (Active Alchemists)
Rather than setting rigid goals, focus on what lights you up and brings sustained energy.
Ask yourself (yes/no questions):
- Are there activities that make you feel energized rather than depleted?
- Do you know what things genuinely elicit a ‘yes’ response to in your life right now (you feel your Sacral light up)?
- Can you build satisfaction or growth checkpoints or rather than achievement milestones and goals?”
Affirmation: “I trust my sacral response to guide me toward what’s correct for my growth and what brings me joy.”
🌟 Manifesting Generators (Multi-faceted Magicians)
Your path may look non-linear, and that’s perfect. It moves fast, is full of lots of different things that use up your energy, and is designed for you to pivot. You are here to compress the cycles of work, and often disrupt how we do things in the process. You are meant to be “a lot.”
Ask yourself these questions to tap into your magic:
- Are there projects that spark both your sacral energy response and your creative initiating drive?
- Can you honor your need to do things in your own unique way?
- Do you have passion projects and rituals that ignite pure joy about how you go about your day, and outlets for all your energy?
Affirmation: “I am not too much! I embrace my multi-passionate nature, my need to pivot and do lots of things, and trust my unique process.”
🌟 Projectors (Sound Sages)
Your wisdom comes from recognizing and guiding energy rather than pushing through it.
Reflect on these questions out loud (with a trusted confidant or in nature):
- Who are you naturally drawn to guide or support this year?
- How can you speak your truth authentically and become the invitation itself, thus allowing yourself to be further recognized for your value?
- What knowledge are you naturally synthesizing that others might need?
Affirmation: “I am patient with my timing and trust in being recognized for my wisdom.”
🌟 Reflectors (Radiant Mirrors)
Your monthly lunar cycle offers natural checkpoints for evaluation.
Consider these questions:
- How does your environment support or hinder your wellbeing?
- What patterns have you noticed in the collective energy around you?
- How can you honor your need for a full lunar cycle or more before making any major decisions?”
Affirmation: “I trust my lunar cycle to reveal what’s true and aligned for me, and I am discerning about who I surround myself with and where.”
While your Human Design Type guides your overall strategy and decision-making, understanding the openness in your chart (especially in your Centers) adds another layer of wisdom for creating greater alignment.
Alignment for the New Year Based on Your Centers
Lastly, there are some things you can do to get yourself more aligned per the openness in your chart.
Here are your 2025 affirmations for the openness in the centers within your Human Design chart:
Affirmation for Open/Undefined Head Center
“I recognize that all inspirations are not mine to act on, and I remind myself daily that I do not need to have everything figured out.”
Affirmation for Open/Undefined Ajna Center
“I realize that I am not here to be certain or hold onto a fixed idea or notion, and I allow myself to be open to new ideas and ways of doing things.”
Affirmation for Open/Undefined Throat Center
“I know that I need to be recognized for the wisdom I have to share, and I practice active listening and express myself however feels good to me.”
Affirmation for Open/Undefined G/Identity Center
“I am not here to pick one direction or identity; I get to be a chameleon and play with character development and go wherever feels aligned for me.”
Affirmation for Open/Undefined Will/Ego Center
“I do not need to prove anything to anyone, including myself. I do what I want because I’m brilliant and know that I am enough just because.”
Affirmation for Open/Undefined Emotional Solar Plexus
“Not my circus, not my monkeys — meaning, I am not everyone else’s drama; I discern between how I feel and the emotions of others around me. “
Affirmation for Open/Undefined Spleen Center
“I trust my intuition and say no to the habits, rituals, environments, and relationships that aren’t good for me, that drain me, or that feel unsafe; I allow myself to let go of everything that no longer serves me.”
Affirmation for Open/Undefined Sacral Center
“I realize that my aligned decisions are not made from my mind, but from my knowing Sacral; I trust my ability to respond, and I only show up when I feel a full body YES and when I can prioritize JOY above everything else.”
Affirmation for Open/Undefined Root Center
“Whenever I feel rushed, or the pressure to get things done, I remind myself that I am never ever late, knowing I am always in the right place at the right time, and that all things happen in Divine Timing.”
Embracing Your Natural Timing
As we move through this winter season of 2025, remember that alignment isn’t about forcing yourself into action on January 1st.
It’s about honoring your unique design and flowing with nature’s rhythms.
Whether you’re following the Solar New Year’s Gate 41 energy of manifestation, the Lunar New Year’s fresh beginnings, or simply listening to your body’s own timing, trust that there’s wisdom in the wait.
Use this quiet time to reflect, dream, and align with your specific Human Design strategy. Let your open centers guide you toward wisdom rather than conditioning, and allow your type to inform how you move forward.
By understanding both your Type strategy and the wisdom of your open centers, you can create intentions that truly align with who you are.
When the true energetic new year arrives … whether that’s January 22nd or 29th for you, or something else … you’ll be ready to flow with it naturally, authentically, and in perfect timing.
After all, the most powerful transformations don’t come from a forceful push, but with a mindful pause and an aligned intention.
After all, nature never rushes. And neither should you. Why not make 2025 your year to become truly, deeply aligned with your natural design?
